Bronwyn Bancroft’s Aboriginal Art

As part of our unit on learning about ourselves and each other, we spent some time this week learning about Aboriginal culture. There are so many interesting Dreaming stories to read! One story we read was called ‘Dirrangun’, which is a Dreaming from the Bunjalung and Githavul people connected to the Grafton region of New South Wales. It tells two versions of the same story, but both versions are about the powerful witch-woman Dirangun, and her part in creating the landmarks of the area.

One of the best parts of the story are the beautiful illustrations painted by Bronwyn Bancroft.

We used her ideas and style to make our own versions using oil pastel.
