Discovering Data

In the computer lab today, we started learning about digital data, which is information stored electronically. This information can be stored in many forms, such as a digital decision tree.

We started playing the game Little Alchemy (or Little Alchemy 2) to see how different combinations build on each other. Next we will map those decisions in a tree diagram.

Try choosing one of your discovered elements, and writing a tree diagram of how you got there!

Big Numbers – Place Value

Welcome, Ironbark!

Welcome to a new year, and a new class full of Clever Cookies.

I can’t wait to get to know you all as people and as learners, and look forward to meeting families at ‘Meet the Teacher’ in week 3.

Our school theme for class names is Australian native plants, and I chose Ironbark for us as they grow tall and strong (like us!) They also protect smaller plants and animals, and have a thick skin (which made me think of resilience and persistence, two qualities important in any person!)

You’ll find links on this page to homework, interesting learning activities, and videos or games used in class. Feel free  to leave a comment on any post for Ms Salmon or other students and families to reply to.

I look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

Hour of Code

School Concert

What a fantastic job you all did for our school performance! Bellbirds’ behaviour throughout the rehearsal and performance was outstanding, and left plenty of energy for our performance. Special congratulations to our 3 soloists – I’m very proud of you all.

The choir also performed admirably 🙂

‘For Good’

Stage 3 – For Good
Boys, you’ll be singing the alto part, where the notes go down.

Girls, sing the soprano part, where the notes go up.

Here’s both parts together:

And, just the instrumental accompaniment:

This is how it could sound when we bring it all together.

Public speaking

Congratulations to Jessica for naming it to the state finals for public speaking! Her planned speech was on ‘the environment is worth saving’ and the impromptu topic was ‘false alarms’ . We are so proud of you!
