Hink Pinks

In homework this week, you’ll find some ‘Hink Pinks’ – pairs of rhyming words with a funny definition. For example, a sale on food might be a ‘meal deal’. Want some more? Try these:

  1. Rip in a teddy?
  2. Keeps a cat’s paws warm?
  3. Huge hog?
  4. Large branch?
  5. Fast choice?
1. rip in a teddy 1. _____________ _____________
2. keeps a cat’s paws warm 2. _____________ _____________
3. huge hog 3. _____________ _____________
4. large branch 4. _____________ _____________
5. fast choice 5. _____________ _____________

Even better, can you come up with some of your own? To do that, first think of the pair of rhyming words, then write the clue to figure it out.

Riddles from ‘Finders Keepers’

A tree has died to give me birth,
But still I shelter feathered friends,
I’m large and heavy, coloured earth,
With golden fringes my tail ends,
And where my name and others be,
My owner’s name is plain to see.

The Clever Cookies know (or at least, suspect!) all the answers to these riddles… I wonder if any of our visitors can figure out what items are being described?

Riddle 1 – Clyde O’Brien

A tree has died to give me birth,
But still I shelter feathered friends,
I’m large and heavy, coloured earth,
With golden fringes my tail ends,
And where my name and others be,
My owner’s name is plain to see.

Riddle 2 – Eleanor Doon

My first in fur but not in fun,
My second means just me alone,
My third is third as well in run,
My fourth begins my saddest groan.

In shining gold they make their bed.

Riddle 1 – Wendy Minelli

And if you pull my yellow ring,
A song about a star i sing.’
