Healthy Foods

Which foods are healthy or unhealthy?

Now, how about graphing the popularity of different foods?

What foods do you like to eat?

Sometimes Foods

We have learned about the healthy food groups – fruit and vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein (meats/alternatives). We also know about ‘sometimes foods’. These are foods with too much sugar, salt, or fat and oil. We can’t have them very often, so when we do have them, we should make sure we enjoy and appreciate them!

  • How many ‘sometimes foods’ can you think of? Can you think of something for every letter of the alphabet?
  • What do you think would happen to your body if you ate too much ‘sometimes food’ and not enough ‘healthy food’?
REVISION OF FOOD GROUPS

Food Groups

We have been learning about healthy and unhealthy foods.

Now, we need to learn about different kinds of food groups. We need to eat different amounts of food from each group to get energy.

Try some of these games to learn more.

Brekkie Set Go

On Friday, we saw the guys from Brekkie Set Go who taught us all about energy and healthy eating. It was really fun when we made a giant digestive system!

Pop Art

Pop art is a style of artwork created in the 1950’s which uses bright and brash colours to draw everyday items. It is inspired by comic strips, advertising, and popular entertainment.

A famous pop artist was Andy Warhol. His most famouos artworks were of Marilyn Monroe and of some cans of soup! We will be using his style to make some artworks of food, just like the following artist who calls herself the Pop Art Diva.

Mini Masterchefs!

Today, our class took advantage of having three different teachers to do some cooking! We broke up into three groups, and took turns trying out each teachers recipes. Miss B helped us make pikelets with fresh fruit and cream, with Miss R we got to make banana and vanilla milkshakes, and Mrs K taught us how to make Rocky Road Truffles.

Would you like to try making these at home? Here are the recipes!Read more: Mini Masterchefs!

Multicultural Day

This term, Stage 2 have been learning about Asia and celebrations. So to finish off the term, we threw it all together into once big Asian celebration. Our class cooked delicious coconut barfi (an Indian sweet), and almost everybody bought in foods from Asia or their own countries to share in a great big feast. Our Asian inspired artworks decorated the hall and many of us dressed up in traditional clothes or colours for Asian countries. Each class also put together a performance about Asia. S2S did a play from Indonesia, S2P learned a rap song to count in Japanese, S2M showed off some amazing kites they made from Thailand, and S2M put together a percussion piece.
