Fables

Fables are stories with a lesson. The author tries to show, not tell the lesson. Here are a couple of fables – can you work out what the lesson is?

Fractured Fairy Tales

A fractured fairy tale is one where something important has been changed which makes the whole story a little different. Here is a fractured fairy tale version of Little Red Riding Hood, called “Red’s Riding Hoods”. What changed in this story? How did it change your opinion of the characters, and what are your reasons for these opinions?

Jack and the Beanstalk

Is a beanstalk a living thing? Do you think we could grow one at school? If yes, what do you think it would be like? If no, why not?

Gingerbread Man

3 Billy Goats Gruff

Read the story and compare it to The Three Kangaroos Gruff, which we read in class on Tuesday!

Jack and the Beanstalk

This week, we have been learning the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk. Mrs Klose used puppets to tell us the story. Here is another version of the story that is a little bit different, but still interesting. It made Jack look like a good boy, but in Mrs Klose’s version Jack was very naughty and stole the giant’s gold!

We will be planting our own ‘beanstalks’. I wonder if they will grow up through the clouds too?

Red Riding Hood

We read one version of this story, and then watched this version of the story as part of our unit on protecting yourself. The Clever Cookies had to figure out what was dangerous (could make someone get hurt), and what was safe. Then, we tried to change the dangerous choices in the story into safe choices, so that Red Riding Hood would stay stafe!
